The TRC in association with the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce formed the "Correctional Study Institute" to take a fresh look at the infrastructure needs of the Justice system in Woodbury County. A primary concern was whether a new jail is needed to be built -- at an estimated cost of $30 Million to $70 Million, or if there are reasonable alternatives to improve the delivery of justice and save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.

In 2007, the City of Sioux City entered into a development deal for the construction of a "Stoney Creek Hotel" property in downtown Sioux City. A dozen properties have to be assembled into a parcel, and many buildings must be demolished. At a City Council meeting reported by the Sioux City Journal, council members talked about this project costing the City around $1.8 Million.

How much taxpayer money is the City spending on this project? To date, over $4.8 Million -- and not all costs have yet been identified. Click here for the details.

The City of Sioux City purchases services from engineering firms, architects and consultants. Is this always the most appropriate use of taxpayer's money?
